Backlog Legal

Privacy Policy

We wrote this policy to explain what information Backlog collects, how we use it, and what choices you have. Some parts of running an online service are technical, but we have tried to keep this page clear and readable.

We use your information only in the ways described here to operate, secure, improve, and support Backlog. By using the service, you agree to the collection and use of information in line with this policy.

Terms used here have the same meaning as they do in our Terms of Service unless this page says otherwise.

Information Collection and Use

We collect the information we need to run Backlog, secure accounts, support customers, improve the product, and handle billing for paid plans.

This can include information you give us directly, such as your name, username, email address, workspace details, billing details, and anything you choose to add to your profile or workspace.

We also collect technical and usage information such as IP addresses, browser type, device identifiers, time zone, diagnostic logs, session activity, feature usage, and approximate location derived from your IP address.

We use this information to provide the service, authenticate you, personalize your experience, communicate with you, process payments, detect abuse, comply with the law, and improve how Backlog works over time.

  • Send service messages, account notices, and product updates.
  • Provide paid features and manage subscriptions.
  • Measure product usage and improve reliability, performance, and security.
  • Respond to legal requests, fraud investigations, and other obligations required by law.

Cookies

We use cookies and similar storage technologies to keep sessions working, remember preferences, and understand how the service is being used.

These technologies may store information such as your session state, sign-in status, appearance preferences, pages viewed, referral source, browser capabilities, and how long you spend on the site.

You can usually control cookies through your browser settings. If you block all cookies, some parts of Backlog may not work properly.

Service Providers

We use trusted third parties to help us host Backlog, process payments, send email, store files, and analyze service performance.

Those providers only receive the information needed to perform their work for us, and they are not allowed to use it for unrelated purposes.

Security

We take reasonable steps to protect personal information, but no internet service or storage system can promise perfect security.

We use administrative, technical, and access controls designed to protect the information we store and transmit. That may include authentication controls, encryption where appropriate, and internal access limits.

You are also responsible for protecting your password, devices, and account access. If you believe your account has been compromised, contact us immediately.

Information You Share or Make Public

If you choose to share information with other people, publish it, or expose it through links or integrations, we cannot control how others handle it after that point.

Think carefully before posting sensitive information in shared workspaces, comments, public pages, or third-party services connected to Backlog.

If you follow links out to another service, that service has its own privacy practices and this policy will not apply there.

Retaining Your Personal Information

We keep personal information only for as long as we need it to provide the service, meet legal obligations, prevent fraud, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.

If you want us to delete your information or close your account, you can contact us. We may still keep certain records where we have a legitimate business need or a legal obligation to do so.

Children's Privacy

Backlog is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will investigate and remove it where appropriate.

Compliance With Laws

We may disclose personal information when we believe disclosure is required by law or reasonably necessary to protect our rights, users, or the public.

That can include responding to legal process, court orders, lawful requests from regulators or law enforcement, fraud investigations, or other compliance obligations.

Files, Images, and Other Uploads

When you upload files to Backlog, we store and process them so we can provide the features you requested.

  • We collect and store uploads so they can appear in tasks, projects, comments, and other workspace surfaces.
  • We may process uploads to render previews, improve presentation, support search, run security checks, or power product features you choose to use.
  • We do not share uploads with third parties except where that is needed to operate the service, fulfill your request, or comply with the law.
  • We keep uploads only as long as needed for the service, account management, backup, abuse prevention, and legal compliance.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this policy from time to time as the product, law, or our operations change.

When we make changes, we will post the updated version here. If a change is material, we may give more prominent notice or ask for consent where the law requires it.
